Especially for use in machines with high CPU load graphics specialist Nvidia has its GPUs (Graphic Processing Unit) built the Tesla series.IBM’s new iDataPlex dx360 server M3 is working with the Tesla GPU M2050.
The target group is, for example, companies that operate in the financial sector, but also scientists, such as in energy research.
iDataPlex servers for standard rack
The server works with Intel’s Xeon processor 5600 (either four or six cores), can accommodate up to 128 GB of memory (DDR-3 1333 MHz) and fits into a standard Enterprise Rack. The technical data is available on the IBM product page (see links).
Nvidia Tesla pushes the technology in the area of high-performance computing. The California manufacturer had introduced the GPU technology in 1999. Customers can now write their own applications and to seek a special Developer Toolkit (CUDA) from Nvidia’s web site. For the toolkit have been raised so far Nvidia already registered more than 200,000 downloads.
